2024 North America Humanistic Buddhism Speaker Training
“Shared Responsibility to Establish a Pure Land”

In the effort to propagate Humanistic Buddhism and establish a pure land in the world, the 2024 BLIA Humanistic Buddhism Speaker training was held online on October 25 at 5:00 pm. BLIA World Headquarters Secretary General Ven. Chueh Pei as well as Vice Secretaries General North America Ven. Hui Dong and Ven. Yung Ku presided over the training session; 200 members from 19 chapters in Canada, USA, and Paraguay in South America participated.

In his address, Vice Secretary General America West Ven. Hui Dong stated that as the general public has become more accepting of the philosophy of Humanistic Buddhism, we are in need of many more BLIA members to spread Humanistic Buddhism. There is the practice of empathy in Buddhism when lay followers speak on their life experience in connection with the Dharma, which resonates much easier with most people. As a Speaker, in preparing for their speech, they can enhance their understanding of Humanistic Buddhism; at the same time, when spreading the Dharma to teach others it is an improvement of personal cultivation.

World Headquarters Secretary General Ven. Chueh Pei personally provided training for all participating preparatory Speakers with “Humanistic Buddhism Speaker Three-phase Speaking.“ She further shared four causes for being a Humanistic Buddhism Speaker: first, to truly study the writing of the Venerable Master; second, to speak on the good of the Dharma to others; third, Humanistic Buddhism can transform a person, a family, and we can turn our life around in actualizing Buddhism, therefore, we are a witness for Humanistic Buddhism; fourth, we discover many talented executives and presidents with great experience. Assessment of Speakers is similar to picking out pearls, we can unexpectedly discover lecturers of life education and Lay Dharma Lecturers. Through the Speaker program we can give ourselves an opportunity to practice in breaking through our mental obstacles and training our stage poise and courage, all of which benefit ourselves endlessly.

The Speakers will be the driving force for reading and studying, which help us learn the Dharma more diligently by reflecting on our personal cultivation and the keys of each story. The “Three-phase Speaking” comes from the “four levels” for leading a reading group, hence, to be a Speaker, the selection of a topic and material is very important.

Two demonstrations were further provided by BLIA New York Speaker Ma Xiaoen and BLIA Vancouver Speaker Chen Jieyi based on the two articles: “Where is the Future?” and “To Renew Ourselves.” Ven. Chueh Pei, Ven. Jue Duo, and Ven. You Rong gave their critiques of the demonstrations; an open session was available for participants to ask questions, to each of which Ven. Chueh Pei replied most skillfully from her personal experience.

Before the training session concluded, Vice Secretary General America East Ven. Yung Ku expressed the wish for all the BLIA members participating in the training to become Humanistic Buddhism Speakers. With the motivation, everyone will work even harder, and selecting articles that resonate with our own life is the key to become a successful Speaker. Therefore, an important part of preparation is to read extensively, the process of which is similar to having a dialog with Venerable Master Hsing Yun, allowing our life to keep improving within reading and speaking. The two-hour online training session concluded successfully amidst the compact and invigorating program.
