UNFCCC  COP29: BLIA Participates in Interfaith Dialogue Empowerment.

The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is being held in Baku, Azerbajian, from November 11 to 22, 2024. This pivotal event brings together leaders, scientists, experts, and youth from nearly 200 countries to collaborate on solutions and strategies for addressing global climate change.

On the morning of November 16, BLIA World Headquarters Lay Dharma TeacherFellowship Committee Vice Committee Director, Dr Kwong Djee, Chan represented the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) at the "Morning Mindfulness Practice" session at the Faith Pavilion. The session was organized by Brahma Kumaris, an UN-affiliated organization known for its active promotion of global cooperation and environmental initiatives.

During the event, Vahid Vahdat, Brazil's External Affairs Representative for the Baháʼí Faith, led participants in mindfulness and meditation practices.

Vahid Vahdat shared his insights from the Baháʼí teachings on environmental stewardship, emphasizing the importance of cultivating inner peace as a foundation for addressing the challenges of climate change. Kwong echoed this sentiment by highlighting its alignment with the "Three Acts of Goodness" philosophy advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, founder of Fo Guang Shan, particularly the principle of "thinking good thoughts." He understood that this principle was a vital approach to tackling climate change and fostering the resolution of international conflicts.

The session delved into the theme of "Combining Faith and Science," highlighting the complementary roles of spiritual beliefs and scientific innovation. Kwong emphasized the importance of technology in addressing climate change, while faith offers moral guidance and acts as a compass for scientific progress. Participants responded enthusiastically, engaging in lively discussions around these concepts.

Due to IBPS active involvement in the discussion, the Baháʼí representative from New York Cecilia Schirmeister invited him to recite the last quotes for the mindfulness session, concluding with shared readings.Kwong and Vahdat continued their dialogue, expressing a mutual desire for enhanced collaboration at COP30, anticipated to be held in Brazil next year, to address environmental challenges and combat global warming.

Kwong extended an invitation to Vahdat and Aneta to attend BLIA's November 20 presentation on "Environmental Protection and Spiritual Well-being." He also shared his hope that Vahdat will visit the Fo Guang Shan Temple in Brazil to gain deeper insights into Humanistic Buddhism and its growth in the region.
